PREMIER GATHERS MEMBERS OF NAT'L COUNCIL FOR CD PRESIDENCY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Monday, August 29, the Prime Minister S.Batbold held the first meeting of the National Council for chairing the Community of Democracies (CD) which is led by him.
Mongolia took the president of the CD in July of this year, and it will last until 2013. The National Council has responsibilities to organize the CD's presidency and to provide it with directives.
The CD is considered as an intergovernmental international organization with goals to support democracy and unite positions of countries for developing norms of the democracy and institutions. In a scope of the CD chairmanship, Mongolia will host a Foreign Ministerial conference of the CD member countries.
At the beginning of the National Council meeting, the Premier S.Batbold underlined an importance to get achievements in specific matters within the presidency of the CD, and paid a special attention to the educational sector, urging the council members to treat this matter with more responsibilities. Furthermore, a working group led by D.Tsogtbaatar, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs obliged members of the National Council to report its works on every time, connecting them with the Presidential and Parliamentary Offices, and to provide the presidency with necessary information and quick management.
Exchange of views on works for the CD chairmanship ran among some parliamentarians who are involved in the membership of the National Council; G.Zandanshatar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ts.Nyamdorj, the Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs; Yo.Otgonbayar, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science; T.Gandi, the Minister of Social Welfare and Labor; the State Secretaries of some Ministries; head of the National Commission for Human Rights; and other officials.
The CD chairmanship activities is divided into a number of working groups on poverty, development and democratic affairs; on development of democracy and protection of national and transnational threats; on gender equality and protection of women's rights; on regional cooperation; on civil society and protection of it; and on reform of the CD. At an upcoming meeting of the National Council to be held in October, heads of the working groups will be selected, and the budget for the CD chairmanship will be released on September 15, 2011.
