Mongolian-German mining meeting held in Berlin
The third Mongolia-Germany mining and mineral resources cooperation meeting was held in Berlin on September 12, with 33 delegates taking part. The Mongolian delegation was lead by B.Batkhuu, head of the mining and heavy industry board of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy. The German delegation was lead by D.Mager, head of the energy research, renewable energy and coal board of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
The delegates discussed the implementation of agreements and the cooperation of mining organizations, and exchanged information on each nation’s mining sectors. The two sides also discussed the progress being made in the Nariin Sukhait coal processing facility, which is a joint venture of Coal and Minerals Technology LLC of Germany and MAK LLC of Mongolia. Construction is to begin next year, and the facility is scheduled to be operational in 2013.
The two sides discussed other projects, including a ferrous-metals processing facility in Darkhan, the Shariin Gol coal company, and dust reduction efforts at the Erdenet factory. They also exchanged opinions on the exploitation of rare metals deposit mines, and the restoration of the environment after the closure of such mines.
The German side also expressed its interest for the second time in an intergovernmental agreement on natural resources. The delegates agreed to meet again in Ulaanbaatar next autumn.
