MONGOLIA TO CHAIR MINISTERIAL MEETING OF DEMOCRATIC GROUP

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ As a chairman of the Community of Democracies (CD), Mongolia will organize a Ministerial Meeting of the UN Democratic Group and the first meeting of CD Leading Council. These will run September 22-23 in New York, USA. A key report entitled "Education for democracy" is to be delivered by the President Ts.Elbegdorj at the Ministerial meeting that will be chaired by Mongolia's Foreign Minister G.Zandanshatar. This meeting will gather some 100 officials, including Presidents of Lithuania, El Salvador, Kyrgyzstan, the UN Secretary-General and high bodies from other countries. Discussions will be dedicated to priorities of the CD in strengthening the democracy, goals of the CD and regional collaboration in forming the education for democracy and in supporting civil society organizations. The first meeting of the new established CD's Leading Council will be organized by Mongolia. This Council includes representatives of some 30 countries-members of the CD. The meeting will be co-chaired by the President Ts.Elbegdorj and the Foreign Minister G.Zandanshatar. It will approve the Council's structure and regime, and make decisions on the CD's budget.
