Photo exhibition of Mongolia’s lost monasteries

A black and white photo exhibition, “Mongolian monasteries and temples in the early 20th century” opened at Blue Moon Art Gallery on July 22. It is the first exhibition curated by Gandantegshinlen Monastery. Photos in the exhibition capture scenes from ancient temples, monasteries and monks of Mongolian Buddhism.

Around 80 photographs of monasteries and temples preserve the legacy of places destroyed in 1937, in accordance with the cultural policy of the communist regime. The exhibition was conceived to show the development of Mongolian culture and heritage at the time.

Foreign visitors attending the 13th Congress of the International Association of Tibetan Studies, came to the opening reception of the exhibition. If you want to know more about Mongolia’s lost monasteries, temples and monks, Blue Moon is the place to go. The exhibition will be open until July 28.
