Mongolian street art gets gallery debute

The closing party for the Street Art Festival took place on Saturday night at the Design Park Art Zone Center. The halls were covered with paintings, and instalations and video artworsk were projected on the gallery walls.

”We want to show what have we done since the 15th of March. Everytime more and more artists take part,” said the project coordinator B. Tsetsegbadam.

The exhibition included the best works from Mongolian artists such as: Nasanbat, S.Ganzul, D.Lhajav and many others.

”Vistors can admire the animations on the walls created in collaboration with Thomas Deschamps and Design Park Art Zone Center. The murals are around 180m² large. The main concept of this fresco is the future of Mongolia. It shows a contrast of tradition and modernity. What will be won in the future?

What will happen with Mongolia, will they forget their traditions?” explained Thomas Deshong.

Around 50 artists participated in the project. It was the first event of its kind held in Ulaanbaatar.

Organizers and participants associated with this event have hopes for the future of street art.

“We want to organize it every year. Possibly one day it will appear in Sukhbaatar Square,” said B. Tsetsegbadam.

Guests were dancing until late to the music of Dj Dund Gol, who mixed tranditonal Mongolian music with popular hits. Grand Rock- Crown's Scream Group preformed live.

The Street Art Festival was organized by Alliance Francaise de Mongolie and DP- Art Zone Centre.

There wasn't an fee to enter but donations were accepted in unique bird houses throughout the exhibition.

The bird houses maybe making their way to the streets of Ulaanbaatar soon as part of an art project to raise awarness of nature.
