Altantuya's murder: The truth still eludes us

'The police's duty is to uphold the rule of law and the constitution, and damn your superiors if they cross the line.'

Kangaroo: There are too many unanswered questions in this whole episode. Why did the accused kill Altantuya Shaariibuu when they did not even know her?

When a murder takes place, there is always a motive. That's how the police carry out their investigations.

You don't simply kill someone for no reason unless you are insane. Surely they were acting on someone's orders.

Where did they get the C-4 explosive which is a restricted item? What was the necessity to blow up the poor girl to pieces? Couldn't she be detained and sent back on the next plane to Mongolia?

The only conclusion is that it was a deliberate action to destroy all evidence.

Quigonbond: The police should think twice before blindly supporting the powers-that-be, including top ranking police officers.

Nearing and going into elections, every police officer should learn to think for himself and his duty to the country.

Remember the movie ‘Clear and Present Danger' starring Harrison Ford - there is the chain of command, and then there is the constitution. Your duty is to uphold the rule of law and the constitution, and damn your superiors if they cross the line.

Ipoh2: Why are we letting them get away with no answers to immigration records being erased and the issuing of the C-4 explosives? Can't the Bar Council or any NGO pursue this matter for us?

Pick-a-bone: If only the DG (director-general) were called to testify the purpose of the deletion of immigration records of Altantuya, there would have been a lead towards motive.

Why and under whose orders were the records erased? There must be a clear motive to have the records erased.

This was during Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's time as prime minister and minister in charge of internal security. He could have taken action on the matter but he did not, and I wonder why.

Abdullah needs to examine his conscience now that two police officers are awaiting their fate. Whether or not they will be successful in their appeal is a different matter.

The Appeals Court is very swift in hearing appeals from opposition leaders who are convicted of certain crimes, but the appeal of these two police officers is taking a long, long time to be heard. Isn't this something to ponder over?

Gobsmacked!: They are so desperate to cover up the whole matter that there is no room for subtlety or doubt at all as to the guilt of the parties involved.

Yes, Abdullah is also implicated for his omission. Such grave injustices carried out by the very people who are supposed to safeguard the nation and ensure there is justice in the system. What a great betrayal!

And how many officials have been dragged into this quagmire of lies, deceit, omissions and silence. How much the key players have to answer for when the time comes and the time may not necessarily be in the next life.

ABU Member: Poor Altantuya was murdered for no reason. As long as the murderers were caught, tried and punished, that is all that matters. Other factors/evidence are irrelevant.

The rakyat are supposed to believe what is spoon fed by the government. This obsolete strategy works well with the ill-informed rakyat of the past.

But nowadays they are well educated and have responded in a totally opposite way. They want answers to the many red flags raised during the trial.

Kairos: The whole management of the Altantuya case rots and stinks no matter how you look at it.

Faces are masked (why?), records go missing, key witnesses are intimidated so that they have to run for their lives, the trial is shoddily conducted and to cap it all, after two long years to come up with the written judgment, the judge says the most stupid thing that even a moron will not agree and that is 'the motive is not essential in a murder'.

This is absolutely incredible and a sad reflection of the calibre of the judiciary that we have. It all adds up to only one conclusion: an innocent life is sacrificed so that some big shots can go scot-free to enjoy his millions obtained through corrupt kickbacks.

GoneBananas: Thank you, former Criminal Investigation Department chief Mat Zain Ibrahim for your perseverance.

We know that former police chiefs Abdul Rahim Noor and Musa Hassan gave you a hard time for not helping them cover up their criminal involvement in Dr Mahathir Mohamad's infamous Sodomy I.

These Umno warlords, drunk on false power, believe they are invulnerable and immune from prosecution. They also think they are smarter and stronger than the sultans, since Mahathir was able to castrate them and reduce the monarchy to just another elite bumiputera business club.

The lynchpin is none other than attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail. When Gani goes down, the whole Umno gravy train will be derailed.

Watson: As new evidence had surfaced, the appropriate channel brave enough to bring this matter up to reopen the case is the Bar Council. So please for the sake of humanity knock on AG's door.

Anonymous: As long as there's no closure to the Altantuya saga, this murder will remain the albatross around Najib's neck.
