Wind farm project set aside
“Newcom” group has set aside a project to put online the “Salkhit” 50 megawatt (MW) wind farm until the spring of next year. Within the project only nine 1.6 XLE wind turbine generators have been erected by General Electric of the planned 31 wind turbine generators. Therefore the project might be postponed until the second quarter of next year. The construction of Mongolia’s first wind power scheme is being developed in Salkhit Uul, 75km from Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. An official close to the issue say the installation work of the wind turbine generators are currently stuck with contractor Leighton Asia company. Newcom group`s subsidiary Clean Energy’s flagship project Salkhit is the first in the Mongolian renewable sector. EBRD and the Netherlands Development Finance Company put up $85m of debt financing for the $122m Salkhit project last July.
According to an agreement of power between Clean Energy and the Mongolian Government, the Salkhit wind power station will produce 5-6 percent of the total electricity of Mongolia, which could power 100 thousand households with power for a year when it becomes fully operational.
