Consultants seek to establish Industry Standarts in Mongolia
The FINANCIAL -- Mongolian Management Consulting Institute will officially launch its five-day “Essentials of Management Consulting” course.
The course seeks to teach fundamental consulting skills, and as such is MMCI’s first step in establishing industry standards for the consulting sector. As the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development reported, this initiative is part of the Support to SME Development in Mongolia Project, which is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
“The consulting sector is experiencing an exciting period of growth,” said Enkhbat Enkhbayar, MMCI President. “To support this, we are building the capacity of consultants and the infrastructure to support and promote the sector.”
There are currently over 500 consulting firms in Mongolia providing a range of services, including marketing, organisation, strategy, and information and communication technology solutions. Established in 2011, MMCI is a consulting association, composed of 29 members.
One key target market for consultants is the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, which comprises nearly 97 per cent of the number of businesses in the country. SMEs are often reluctant to use consulting services because they are unaware of the potential value-added. The Support to SME Development in Mongolia Project seeks to address this problem by engaging consultants to help businesses solve key problems. By strengthening the local consulting sector, the Project seeks to demonstrate to SMEs that consultants can help SMEs to grow and become more competitive.
“Nomadic culture has given Mongolians a strong entrepreneurial spirit, yet many entrepreneurs are still in need of support to build their skills to expand their businesses,” explained Philip ter Woort, Head of the EBRD’s Resident Office in Mongolia. “A strong consultancy industry is ideally placed to provide the needed support and to assist the SME sector to be able to fully capitalise on opportunities.”
“This approach is key to achieving systemic change and doing so in a sustainable manner,” explained Vincenzo Collarino, Programme Manager for the European Union Delegation to China and Mongolia. “The EU seeks such long-term solutions in all of its work.”
The official launch of the “Essentials of Management Consulting” training coincides with the three-day visit to Mongolia of the Heads of Mission of the EU Delegation to China and Mongolia for high-Level meetings with the Mongolian government. The Delegation will be in the country from 21-23 November 2012.
Mr Enkhbat Enkhbayar, Mr Philip ter Woort and Mr Vincenzo Collarino will be present at the launch event from 11.00 AM on 22 November.
