National Public Running: Distance from UB to London

A National running event to show support for the Mongolian Olympic team that is going to the London Olympics, the 30th summer games and the 14th Paralympics, took place last Saturday under the motto ‘Health is the greatest wealth’. The Prime Minister of Mongolia, and also a director of Mongolian National Committee for London Olympics S.Batbold, the Minister of Health N.Khurelbaatar, director of Department of Physical Education and Sports and other officials and representatives of different sectors including all age people from 8 to 80 years old attended this event. Besides supporting the athletes who had qualified for the London Olympics, the participants of this event also advertised the importance of being fit and well. The runners wore white tops and green caps which symbolise the motto of the Mongolian Olympic team ‘Green team, Green earth’. 

Mongolia has 21 Olympic medals and this year team Mongolia has 29 Olympic places. The Prime Minister stated during the opening of the event: “A sound mind resides in a healthy body. I’m sure that our Mongolian team will participate very well confirming their success in the Beijing Olympics and will make their country proud.” Also athletes G.Lhagvasuren, J.Gundegmaa and U.Tumenbayar were given the title International Master. 

Before starting to run, physical education teachers and coaches with the participants did breathing exercises.

The participants of the national running event started at the road on the west side of the governmental palace and finished it after three laps around the governmental palace. “I realized from this short run that getting an Olympic place and earning a medal is a result of very hard work, patience and intelligence”, said the Prime Minister. L.Otgonbayar, an athlete of Ajnai Corporation who is attending the London Olympics in the marathon category commented: “I’m really happy that governmental officials and citizens are supporting the athletes. We are very encouraged and had become energetic today. I’m aiming to be in the first 20 of the marathon and am doing training and am studying the other athletes.”

The national running event will continue until July 27th and it will be 12,250 kilometres in total. The number represents the distance between Ulaanbaatar and London
