Mongolia: Ex-Leader Granted Bail

Former President Nambaryn Enkhbayar was granted bail on Monday and will remain hospitalized after refusing water for 10 days to protest his detention on corruption charges. He ended his hunger strikeafter bail was granted. The Sukhbaatar District Court’s decision was confirmed by a Mongolia prisons service spokesman, T. Amarsaikhan. Mr. Enkhbayar and his family said his arrest last month, on charges dating as far back as 2000, was an attempt by the government to keep him from taking part in parliamentary elections next month.
