G.ZANDANSHATAR HOLDS OFFICIAL TALKS WITH UNIDO DIRECTOR-GENERAL

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs G.Zandanshatar; and the director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) held official talks.

The Foreign Minister G.Zandanshatar noted that the UNIDO has implemented projects and programs costing about USD 15 million, and expressed thanks to the UNIDO for significant contribution to a development of the industrial sector in Mongolia.

The sides expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful relations and cooperation which started from 1968 in frames of technical assistance. The sides also exchanged views on an implementation course of the Integrated Programme on technical cooperation and its financial matter, with aims to ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural and industrial sectors and to support the competitiveness of Mongolia.

Moreover, the sides discussed an issue on a recommendation reflected in a research on the industrial policy of Mongolia that was worked out in 2011, and shared views on directions of the Mongolia-UNIDO cooperation in times of an intensive development of the Mongolia's economy.

Mongolia has put forward specific proposals to the UNIDO to introduce environmentally-friendly progressive technologies, manufacture final products by minerals and raw materials, produce brand products of Mongolia and take assistance from the UNIDO for introducing technologies, standards and management in the fields of light industry and tourism. It is expected that this visit would contribute to the Mongolia-UNIDO cooperation.

Present at the talks were officials from the Mongolia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, and the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy; Ms. Sezin Sinanoglu, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia; and other officials.
