ABOUT HARVEST AND PLANTING

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ It has been planned this spring that grain will be sowed on 330 thousand hectares, said the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry T.Badamjunai at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

According to him, wheat will take 320 thousand hectares, potatoes--15 thousand hectares, vegetables--8,000 hectares, and fodder and technical plants--18 thousand hectares. Mongolia wants to harvest this year at least 490 thousand tons of grain, 200 thousand tons of potatoes, 40 thousand tons of fodder and technical plants, and to do plowing on 330 thousand hectares.

As of today, the farming facilities' repair is going with 80 per cent; combine harvesters, facilities and elevators have been supplied from the state budget; some 80 tractors, combine harvesters and 8,400 spare parts have been supplied with a loan from China.

In 2011, Mongolia fully provided its people with wheat and potatoes, and with vegs with 63 per cent.
The Minister T.Badamjunai also spoke about works done last year in frames of the "Mongolian livestock" national program, sayng, for example, that 13 million baby animals were received and that a number of livestock exceeded 36 million. Almost 97 per cent out of 74 works have been completed at cost of MNT 46 billion.
