Umnugobi residents face water issues
Umnugobi aimag residents worry about the mining sector’s use of water, because water is scarce in the aimag.
The Tavantolgoi mining project plans to use water from Balgasiin Ulaan Nuur, the only clean lake in Umnugobi and one of the rare sources of fresh water in the entire Gobi region. Therefore, aimag residents have decided to send a petition to the Government asking that water from Balgasiin Ulaan Nuur not be used for mining activity.
Umnugobi residents say they can not live without water, even if they have luxury apartments and cars. They are gathering signatures for the petition to protect the lake.
