Narantuul vendors establish trade union

Officials with the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU) visited Narantuul market on Thursday to inspect the working conditions of vendors and to research rising prices.

They met with vendors to talk about health and social insurance issues and working conditions. Many vendors said they could not afford health and social insurance. That is why CTU officials decided to establish a trade union of Narantuul vedors and work with them.

CTU President S.Ganbaatar said traders of many districts, soums, and aimags have not had adequate social welfare. Now Narantuul traders could be eligible for health and social insurance. Without such insurance their future would be difficult because many have taken out loans at high interest rates.

The CTU is investigating the situation. The CTU says citizens, workers, and vendors have been damaged by economic instability, but not politicians, who take their salaries from taxes. S.Ganbaatar noted that the Government should start to work for the welfare of citizens.
