New committee for households holds first meeting

The Government has declared 2012 a year to support households and will continue last year’s programs to support employment. Prime Minister S.Batbold has told state, aimag, and local officials to pay special attention to low-income households and small- and medium sized businesses.

At the Cabinet meeting on January 11, members created a national program to support the development of households and established a national committee to organize, implement, and monitor the program.

S.Batbold heads the committee, which held its first meeting on Monday. At the meeting, S.Batbold stated his support for laws aimed at improving education, health, social welfare, employment, production, and services. He said the committee should implement a policy encouraging households and citizens to take steps to improve their incomes and living standards.

S.Batbold also assigned official tasks to government members, Ulaanbaatar’s mayor and aimag governors in the framework of the household support program. He added that aimag governors should report their work and he noted that the committee, government members, aimag governors, and public input and cooperation are critical to improving and upgrading the incomes and living standards of Mongolia’s 742,000 households.
