“Democratic Constitution – 20” forum opens

A research forum called “Democratic Constitution-20” is being held in the Government House on Tuesday.

Members of the People’s Great Assembly who took part in ratification of the Constitution in 1992 are taking part, as are MPs, scholars, and representatives of legal organizations.

Deputy Speaker G.Batkhuu opened the forum with a speech noting that January 13 is the day the constitution was ratified. Parliament will mark the anniversary with books, a documentary, a selection of the best writing of journalists, and a photo exhibit at the State Historical Museum.

B.Chimid, the director of the Legislation Research Center at the Science Academy’s Philosophy, Sociology and Legislation Institute and Honored Lawyer and Labor Hero, is reading a report called “New Democratic Constitution Is a Product of the Mongolian People.”

Ch.Unurbayar of the Justice School of the National University of Mongolia is presenting a report called “Development and Trends of Constitutional Legislation.” L.Ulziisaikhan of the Justice School and Ch.Enkhbaatar of the Management Academy are also delivering reports.

Lawyer B.Chimid is abroad so his deputy, R.Mukhit, will deliver a report on his behalf.

The public submitted about 2,000 suggestions for the constitution. State Conferee discussed it four times and submitted a draft to the People’s Great Assembly, which debated for 76 days before passing it.
