TS.ORGODOL PARTICIPATES IN UNWTO'S CONFERENCE

A head of the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism Ts.Orgodol has attended the United Nations World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) 23rd Annual Conference of South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

One of the UN's specialized agencies--the UNWTO carries out its activities focusing on researches regarding tendency and development of world tourism market, improving professional skills of tourism staffers and developing environmentally-friendly sustainable actions.

Mongolia joined the UNWTO in 1993, but did not have a status of official membership having the right of voting until 2010 due to not paying the tax. Mongolia did pay it, forwarded the collaboration with the UNWTO, received professional and methodological assistance, and thus took part in the 23rd annual conference as an official member. Mongolia’s position has raised at international and regional fields, which allowed it to gain more opportunities to introduce the UNWTO to its works for developing tourism, attracting foreign investments, intensifying the external relations of tourism.

During the conference, the UNWTO’s Secretary-General Mr. Taleb Rifai congratulated Mongolia for its successful participation in the ITB Berlin-2011 tourism exhibition as a cultural partner-country.

Ts. Orgodol has held special meetings with Rifai, with Zolton Somogyi, an executive director for Member Relations and Services at the UNWTO, and others to share views on training Mongolians in tourism, organizing a visit of Rifai to Mongolia, on further direction of the Mongolia-UNWTO cooperation.
