President Xi meets Mongolian counterpart in Shanghai

The presidents of China and Mongolia have met in Shanghai. Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj is visiting the Chinese financial hub to attend the CICA security summit.

Xi Jinping praised China and Mongolia’s relationship. He said that China respects the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Mongolia and supports Mongolia to develop in the way best suited to its conditions.

China and Mongolia are marking 65 years of diplomatic ties with commemorative activities, and 2014 is the year of friendship and exchange. Xi Jinping called for close contact and broad cooperation. He said that China would like to support Mongolia taking part in international and regional affairs and encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Mongolia. China also seeks to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the UN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Xi said.

Elbegdorj hopes that the two sides can work together to make their relationship a model for the region. He invited Xi to pay a state visit, and he wished the CICA summit success.
