MPP FACTION: DOLLAR RATE WAS NOT REASON FOR PRICE BOOST

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ On Tuesday, the faction of the Mongolian People's Party (MPP) at the State Great Khural received the conclusions from two working groups who had inspected meat processing factories, Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and fuel importers.

Led by B.Darinchuluun, a head of the Investigation and monitoring section of the Cabinet Secretariat and by Z.Batbayar, a senior expert of this section, these groups had tried to reveal reasons for fuels and meat prices soar.

The faction's leader O.Enkhtuvshin said the increase of the U.S dollar's rate served as a cause of the consumer goods price boost. “A political influence is laying undeneath,” he added.

Some members said the government must deal with oil import contracts, instead of enterprisers, that the ties between the government and the Bank of Mongolia must be improved.

“The U.S dollar rate increase was not a reason to boost the fuel prices by MNT 200-240, besides, the action and its consequences were not calculated, moreover, I cannot deny that there was the political influence,” Ch.Ulaan stressed.

Economists-experts underlined that this price increase should not have influenced so dramatically on consumer goods prices. "For example, when the price of one liter of fuel goes up by 200-240 togrogs, a price of one kilogram of flour increases by 2-5 togrogs only, according to economic calculations, so the Department for fair competitions and consumers' interest protection must control those entities exaggerating prices," they said.

As the group said, the prices were increased due to an agreement reached last week at a meeting between the fuel importers and a working group, headed by a Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy B.Ariunsan. Namely this permission, which had not been agreed with all related authorities, has brought such consequences, they said.

The second group, who had worked "on meat", said 7.8 billion togrog have been approved in the city's budget for this year for granting incentives to enterprisers reserving meat. This sum is bigger by MNT 1.8 billion than that of the previous year.

“The politics and economics must go separately, bearing own content. The problem has confirmed their dependence on each other, and it may cause a threat not only to people' life but to the country's security as well,” stressed the Premier.
