Standing Committee postpones discussion of Tavantolgoi issue

The Standing Committee on Economics postponed a discussion of proposed amendments to Parliament’s 39th protocol on the Tavantolgoi mining project.

The DP caucus discussed this issue on Monday and established a working group. Batj.Batbayar said the working group plans to discuss the amendments, and after it reaches a decision, the standing committee can discuss it.

The DP caucus previously decided that ten percent of the Tavantolgoi shares that are to be sold to domestic organizations should be distributed to citizens instead. But the working group believes domestic organizations should still have an opportunity to purchase shares, and those purchases should be regulated by legislation.

Therefore, the DP caucus still needs to come up with a final position on the issue.
