Government discusses “100,000 Apartments” program

At the Government meeting on Wednesday, members discussed the “100,000 Apartments” program.

Road, Transportation and Urban Development Minister Ts.Dashdorj told journalists after the meeting that members discussed intensifying the program and granting six-percent-interest loans to low- and middle-income citizens. A final decision will be made at the next meeting, he said.

Mongol Bank, the Financial Regulatory Commission, and the Ministries of Finance and of Road, Transportation and Urban Development will be consulted before a final decision is made on the loan program.

The Government has also asked the Development Bank (DB) to raise MNT 200 billion to provide housing for low- and middle-income citizens.

Ts.Dashdorj noted that the price of each apartment will be determined by supply and demand in the marketplace, and the Government cannot set the price.

Members also discussed road construction and asked the DB to raise MNT 290 billion to finance construction of roads from Ulaanbaatar to Dornod, Sukhbaatar, Uvs, Khuvsgul, Zavkhan, and Umnugobi aimags. The 2012 state budget has allocated MNT 346 billion for road and bridge construction.

Members also discussed the safety of MIAT airplanes and decided to revise the safety monitoring process. Selection of MIAT’s managing team was also discussed.
