OYU TOLGOI LLC SUPPORTS YOUTHS

As outlined in the investment agreement, a memorandum of understanding has been signed among the Oyu Tolgoi LLC and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and training program of OT.


The company is developing one of largest gold, copper mines of the world in South Gobi, launched student scholarship program in order to support students majoring in mining engineering, mine operation, natural environment, scientific and technical and natural sciences. The OT is sponsoring study of 120 students in Mongolian universities and 30 students in international universities under the OT student scholarship program.

On top of this, The OT has opened opportunity for students majoring in the above disciplines to intern in the company in order to make significant investment in Mongolian education sector and help practical and theoretical training of qualified and skilled personnel and create jobs.

Currently, from the students interning in OT, E. Enkhtaivan, 3rd grade student of Otgon tenger University, has been selected as Best Student of “Alma Mater-2011” annual best student recognition and award ceremony organized by Mongolian Youth Federation. Every year, best students are selected from 70 outstanding students nominated from various universities of Mongolia according to criteria: academic achievement of minimum 95% score point in three consecutive quarters and done outstanding works in economic, social, medical science, linguistic, technological fields, and active social participation.

“Oyu Tolgoi objective is selection of interns and scholarship recipients from students which are key pillar of future development of Mongolia based on academic achievement, social participation, initiative, future perspective to contribute to Mongolian mining sector in long term and boost enthusiasm and future confidence of the students,” the President and CEO of OT LLC Cameron McRae said.

Mongolian company OT is developing one of world-class mine in South Gobi of Mongolia makes sure that students have opportunity to receive scholarship and intern in Oyu Tolgoi and improve their living standards. Implementation of the above training program and plans makes not only significant contribution to Mongolian economy, but also important investment in social development of Mongolia.
