Ulaanbaatar Administration to light ger districts

Ulaanbaatar Administration says it spent MNT 5 billion on installing streetlights in ger districts last year, and it plans to spend another MNT 9 billion to finish the project.

Ger khoroos in the Songinokhairkhan and Khan-Uul districts were lighted in 2011, and a total of 3,000 streetlights were installed on repaired citywide in Ulaanbaatar. Officials said from 90 to 95 percent of the lights are working at present, but some ger district residents complain of darkness, saying only the city center has been lighted.

Ger districts are expanding due to countryside residents migrating to the capital. An official with the Mayor’s Office said the office will soon discuss a lighting plan and determine areas to light. Work to install lights in the Urt tsagaan area will begin in February.
