Education minister submits draft laws

Education, Culture and Science Minister Yo.Otgonbayar submitted draft laws on the protection of cultural heritage and on excise taxes to Deputy Speaker N.Enkhbold on Tuesday.

Yo.Otgonbayar said a law on the protection of cultural heritage was originally passed in 2001. But since then Mongolia has ratified several conventions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), so the law needs to be amended. The draft law would cover the exploration, excavation, classification, registration, recovery, protection, and transportation of culturally important objects. Yo.Otgonbayar also said the draft would also clarify the definition of culturally important objects.

The draft law on excise taxes would improve the system of labeling alcoholic beverages. It would also require imported alcohol to be registered with the state and crack down on the illegal trafficking of alcoholic beverages.
