Las Vegas-based school teaches students worldwide the art of hospitality

LAS VEGAS – The International School of Hospitality (TISOH) is attracting future hospitality leaders from around the world with a unique approach that lets students learn from experts working at major Strip hotels.

“For the spring semester, we have students who made the trek to Las Vegas from Indonesia, Bahamas, Spain, Panama, Mongolia, Brazil and Dominican Republic, ” said Tim Lam, TISOH executive director.

International students are eager to gain experience on the Strip and take their new found skills back to their home country, where they pursue their dream jobs, Lam said.

Since 2005, the Las Vegas-based school has been providing hands-on, practical training to hospitality workers seeking career advancement and people who want to break into the field.

“TISOH has a reputation for quality education,” said Marcia Sanchez, who traveled from Dominican Republic to study at TISOH in the hopes of broadening her professional network for future employment in hospitality.

TISOH will hold its spring semester graduation at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the Spanish Trail Country Club, 5050 Spanish Trail Lane, in the southwest part of Las Vegas.

Lam, along with several hospitality professors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a group of working hospitality experts, founded the school to provide continuing education opportunities for people in the hospitality industry – from concierges, conference management and event planners to wedding planners and hotel managers.

“Hospitality is a practical field that is all about creating the experience,” said TISOH instructor Debbie Brumfield, who is chef concierge at Caesars Palace. “Learning from industry professionals brings first-hand stories, tips and tricks into the classroom in a way no textbook can.”

TISOH instructors all are certified hospitality educators, and many also are certified guest service professionals, as designated by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

The school offers flexible class schedules for working adults and recent high school graduates and an online distance-learning curriculum for students far and wide. Instructors include some of the leading experts in their fields, with several of them working at some of the finest resorts along the famed Las Vegas Stip.
