Iranian Freestyle Wrestlers Claim Title in Asian Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s freestyle wrestling team claimed the title of the 2014 Asian Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan on Thursday.

The Iranian team won six gold medals and claimed the title with 70 points. Mongolia and Kazakhstan finished in second and third place with 63 and 51 points respectively.

In 61kg men’s freestyle, Masoud Esmaeilpour defeated Bajrang Kumar from India and won the gold medal. Daulet Niyazbekov from Kazakhstan and Mongolian Narmandakhyn Lkhamgarmaa jointly won the bronze medal.

Ahmad Mohammadi claimed a gold medal in the 65 kg after beating Kang Jin-hyok from North Korea in the final match. The bronze medal went to Furkat Farmanov of Uzbekistan and Batchuluuny Batmagnai from Mongolia.

Mostafa Hosseinkhani beat Somirsho Vokhidov from Tajikistan in 70kg and seized the gold. Bronze medal went jointly to Japanese Ken Hosaka and Ikhtiyor Navruzov from Uzbekistan.

Reza Afzali bagged a gold medal in 74kg after defeating Purevjavyn Onorbat from Mongolia. Ryoichi Yamanaka of Japan and Innokenti Innokentev from Kyrgyzstan claimed the bronze jointly.

In the 86 kg, Meisam Mostafa Jokar defeated Aslan Kakhidze of Kazakhstan and won the gold medal.

Mongolian Orgodolyn Uitumen and Rashid Kurbanov from Uzbekistan seized the bronze jointly.

Komeil Ghasemi defeated Natsagsürengiin Zolboo of Mongolia in the 125 kg and bagged the gold medal.

Bronze medal went to Chinese Shang Hai and Daulet Shabanbay of Kazakhstan.
