Around 100 dogs allegedly buried alive in Inner Mongolia

Anger has been mounting on Weibo after a user posted photos alleging to show some 100 dogs buried alive in Inner Mongolia.

Weibo user @Yinchuanshouhuzhedongwuzhijia, a described animal protection organization, posted the photos on Wednesday night and said that a number of dogs had ben thrown into a deep hole at a garbage dump in Alxa Left Banner, calling for volunteers to come help rescue them.

According to CCTV News, volunteers managed to rescue around 20. The next day, however, the same user said that when they had returned to the dump around 6 a.m. that morning, the hole had been filled. The user said that five dogs had been found alive inside the hole.

A representative fem the city management of Alxa Left Banner said that they had taken several homeless dogs recently and put them in a leased yard, but investigation showed that only a dozen or so dogs were left in the yard and the rest were unaccounted for. Weibo users demanded that the government give an explanation of what happened.

The NGO Beijing Loving Animals Foundation on Saturday posted that volunteers had since found dead bodies of dogs from the holes on Thursday, but the publicity department of Alxa Left Banner has yet to give a response.
