Polish defense delegates to visit Mongolia

Defense delegates from Poland lead by the Polish Under-Secretary of State for the Ministry of Defense, Robert Kupiecki, are making an official visit to Mongolia between 12th and 14th November, 2013.

Mongolia is striving to expand bilateral defense cooperation with Poland, an influential NATO member with a strong triple armed forces on air, land and sea. In the 1970s bilateral defense relations between the Mongolian People"s Republic and the People"s Republic of Poland were built within the former Soviet Union and the countries of the Warsaw Pact. Through the exchange of military delegates, inviting military personnel to military field exercises of the countries of the Warsaw Pact, training Mongolian army personnel in the military schools of Poland and exchanging sport and culture figures for holidays relations were improved. But the bilateral defense relations broke up after the collapse of socialist system and the former Soviet Union. Since 2003 bilateral defense relations have once again been revived. Poland pledged support to Mongolia to take part in the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) program and by offering opportunities to train Mongolian peacekeepers in Poland at the UN Peacekeeping Conference in Warsaw in 2003. Mongolian military personnel now undertake peacekeeping missions under the military command of Poland in Iraq.
