Taiwan Power face Mongolian debutant

Kuala Lumpur: The official draw for the AFC President’s Cup 2012 Group Stage (Qualification) was conducted at AFC House on Tuesday with defending champions Taiwan Power Company slotted into Group A along with a debuting club from Mongolia.

Erchim FC will represent Mongolia who was given a President’s Cup slot from this year onwards filling the void created after Myanmar clubs were granted a place in the AFC Cup.

Last year’s runners-up Phnom Penh Crown FC of Cambodia have been pitted against Dordoi of Kyrgyzstan, Nepal Police Club and Yeedzin FC of Bhutan in Group B.

Tajik side FC Istiklol and Turkmenistan’s Balkan, who were fellow contestants in Group A at the last edition’s final stage, were again placed together in Group C along with Al Amma’ri Youth Club of Palestine and Sri Lanka’s Ratnam SC.

One club each from 12 Member Associations has been slotted into three groups of four teams each to play under a one-round league format between May 3-13, 2012 and the top two teams will qualify for the Final round.

The qualifiers will take place in three centralised venues in Cambodia, Pakistan and Tajikistan.

The final round of the AFC President’s Cup will be played in September 24-30, 2012 and the host of the Finals will be announced later.

Group A: KRL Football Club (PAK), Taiwan Power Company (TPE), LSJ Dhanmondi Club Limited (BAN), Erchim FC (MON).

Group B: Phnom Penh Crown FC (CAM), Dordoi (KGZ), Nepal Police Club (NEP), Yeezdin FC (BHU).

Group C: FC Istiklol (TJK), Balkan (TKM), Al Amma’ri Youth Club (PLE), Ratnam Sports Club (SRI).
