STATE HEAD RECEIVES CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ In frames of the state visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, the President of Mongolia received on Thursday Ms. Angela Merkel, the FRG Chancellor.

Ms. Merkel said she is glad to meet with Mongolia's President, and expressed hope this visit will contribute to developing of the Mongolia-Germany comprehensive partnership.

Mr. Elbegdorj thanked the government and the people of Germany for a warm welcome. "We want to expand the cooperation with Germany in trade and economic sectors. A working group has already been working on implementing an agreement on collaborating in the spheres of mineral resources, industry and technology, and we are satisfied with the mutual aspiration to cooperate in mineral resources, extraction, manufacturing, infrastructure, law and environment, and in preparing Mongolian professionals,” the President said.

The President asked the German side to support Mongolia in realizing the “Gobitec” project, to finance big projects on infrastructure and apartments with soft-loans, to create an institute conducting rare-earth elements research.

Ms. Merkel said she is ready to back all proposals that can forward the mineral sector cooperation agreement Germany and Mongolia established for the first time.

Then the sides shared views on a project on erecting a factory of liquid fuel, on introducing Germany's mining standards in Mongolia, co-implementing the biggest projects on renewable energy, and constructing a scientific park.

The President said he initiated and set up a special fund for supporting Mongolian studies, and raised issues of intensifying the educational ties such as backing Mongolian studies in Germany, continuing archeological and historical scientific works and founding a joint university. He said he wants Germany to continue its scholarship programme for Mongolian students, adding he is ready to finance professors and teachers of Mongolian studies at the University of Bonn.

The dignitaries discussed opportunities to develop the agricultural and railway cooperation.

Then Ms. Merkel gave a banquet to Mongolia's leader.
