MPP FACTION: TWO ELECTIONS IN ONE DAY ARE NOT POSSIBLE"

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The faction of the Mongolian People's Party (MPP) discussed a draft law on local election and then decided to keep its previous position not to run the parliamentary and the local elections at the same time. O.Enkhtuvshin, the head of the faction, said it on Tuesday.

"It is not possible even when the Democratic Party's (DP) faction is suggesting running both elections in June in centers of aimags and in the capital city and the local--in October in the city's districts and in soums," he said.

Separate elections will not have any consequences like severe arguments or fraud, he said and then named reasons why the two elections cannot run simultaneously. "Firstly, the local election voting ends at 10.00 pm, whereas that of the parliamentary election--two hours earlier; secondly, a four-year office term of the Mayor and governors will not expire prior to the elections' time; thirdly, there are no technical capability to carry out the two elections in one day," said O.Enkhtuvshin.

He also said that the faction's thoughts were sounded on Tuesday at a meeting with the Vice speaker and the DP faction.

The two factions are to meet again after their consultations, he said.
