ABOUT THIS YEAR'S SOWING WORK

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ This year's sowing works are expected to start in May. For seeds some 318 thousand hectares are available, said D.Yoson-Erdene, a high official of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, whn asked by the MONTSAME.

This year, grain will be sowed on 330 thousand hectares, wheat--on 320 thousand hectares, potatoes--on 15 thousand hectares, vegetables--on 8,000, and fodder plants--on 18,000 hectares, he said.

Weather cannot be predicted, but some forecast and calculations will be made this month, a schedule of the sowing will be based on many-year average, so no dramatic changes are expected, he went on.

The state annual consultation of farmers will run on April 12 in Darkhan-Uul aimag to release technological recommendations for farming and to discuss issues of facilities, machines and mechanisms. According to the equipment renovation action, imported tractors, tools and devices for crops protection have been exempted from the value-added and customs taxes, in addition, new elevators with 36 thousand tons capacity will be erected in Tov aimag, he said.

The Agricultural Ministry also plans to select a sea-buckthorn planting project and implement it with a government loan in frames of the “Sea-buckthorn” national program.
