Speaker receives ADB delegation

Speaker D.Demberel received a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headed by its president Haruhiko Kuroda on Tuesday.

D.Demberel noted that the ADB is the biggest investor in Mongolia because it has invested USD 2 billion during the last two decades, and its projects and programs have shown concrete results. He said Mongolia is now on a new development path but is facing some difficulties. He said Parliament will pay attention to macro-economic policies and social welfare issues in its discussion of a draft election law and the 2012 state budget proposal.

The speaker added that the investment of ADB in Mongolia has been directed mainly toward needed infrastructure development. He said residents of the western aimags are especially grateful for roads projects financed by the ADB.

H.Kuroda noted that the ADB continues to pay attention to Mongolia’s infrastructure needs, especially in the western aimags. He pledged to cooperate with Mongolia on transportation, energy, and water issues. He emphasized the need to train skilled workers, and warned of rising inflation, recommending it be kept in the single digits.
