Notice sent to miners failing in environmental rehabilitation

A survey by the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism and related organizations reveals
that 81 sites covering over 2,100 hectares in 15 provinces were not rehabilitated in 2010 by mining companies following exploitation. Action will be taken against the offending entities, Minister L.Gansukh assured media, adding that official notice has already been sent to them. He also said entities that renege on environmental commitments would be blacklisted and not granted any fresh exploitation license.

These figures do not include the damage done by illegal gold diggers' activities, which would substantially increase the extent of devastation.
