Better Ag stems from ATAR-3 success

S.Batbold, Prime Minister and head of the national council for the ‘Third Campaign for Reclaiming Virgin Lands’ agrarian development program, gave a speech at the national council’s meeting at the State House.
Mr. Batbold said Mongolia is able to provide its people with potatoes at 100 percent, and vegetables—at 53.7 percent from home territories.

He added that it is time to pay attention to food safety and quality in ways of developing both animal husbandry and farm land, of improving quality; size and safety of the food supply and introduce the latest technology.

Mongolia is going to implement a national program called ‘Guarantee of food safety’, in the next ampaign for reclaiming virgin lands, aiming to provide people with safe and high quality oods through the support of participation by the State, private sector and the public, improve people’s health and labor productivity, reduce poverty and nemployment, and promote economic sustainable growth. In order to realize this, several works are planned to support rural development.

The Third campaign was initiated by former Prime Minister S.Bayar with the purpose to revive the land farming sector that was failing for a decade. Thanks to the campaign, various renovations were made in the legal, economic and technicaltechnological spheres; moreover, a real opportunity was created to provide people with safe foods.

In frames of the Third campaign, Mongolia harvested 366.3 thousand tonnes of grain (of them 344.5 thousand tonnes are wheat), 169 thousand tonnes potatoes, 90.3 thousand tonnes vegetables, five thousand tonnes barley, 3.1 thousand tonnes oat, 538 tonnes rye, 12.9 thousand tonnes oil vegetables, 205 tonnes buckwheat, and 38.9 thousand tonnes fodder vegetables.

In addition, ploughed lands have been prepared in high quality on 276.2 thousand hectares with an increase of 7.4 thousand hectares from the previous year.
