WILLIAM HAGUE VISITS MONGOLIA

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State of the United Kingdom Mr William Hague paid an official visit to Mongolia on October 14-15 by invitation of L.Bold, Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This is the first visit of the British Foreign Secretary to Mongolia after 17 years when Malcolm Rifkind paid a visit in 1996, also it has coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Mongolia-UK diplomatic relations.

The Mongolian FM and the British Foreign Secretary held official talks, exchanging views on the bilateral and international relations. Then Mr Hague was received by the President Ts.Elbegdorj and the Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag.

Mongolia expressed a willingness to develop the cooperation with the UK in concrete directions and agreed with the British side to collaborate in the mining, international financial relations and infrastructure spheres and to maintain a policy on supporting each other at international arena. Moreover, the Mongolian side officially announced that it supports the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) launched by Mr Hague.

Apart of this, the Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office signed a mutual understanding memorandum on the partnership in the Chevening Scholarship, the "Erdenes MGL" company and the British IM Power company inked a memorandum of mutual understanding on constructing a power station based on the "Shivee ovoo" coal deposit.

It is considered that this visit has determined goals, ways and prospects of the bilateral political relations and the cooperation in trade, economic and other fields.
