Pellet fodder is delivered to Mazaalai habitat

The Undesnii Bakharkhal (National Pride) NGO which is in charge of purchasing and delivering pellet fodder to Gobi bear in the Great Gobi National Park during a period of getting out of lair finished preparing 10 tons pellet fodder and foods for Mazaalai.

A carry loaded with nourishment, pellet fodder to leave for the Great Gobi National Park on February 28th. The National Park Protection Officers will distribute the pellet fodder at 25 spots that the Mazaalai regularly visit.

Mazaalai`s main fodder rhubarb is grown in many areas thanks to rain.

Therefore the Working Group on Mazaalai Conservation, which was appointed by the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Green Development has considered conducting the productivity of the soil survey about where and how the herb is grown widely.

The Working group also traces droppings of Mazaalai in order to determine what herb and insect Mazaalai feeds on. Furthermore, conservation officers will grow the types of plants that make up the main fodder of Mazaalai.

Students of Mongolian National University will leave for the Great Gobi National Park to monitor the number of bears and do map this summer.

The Institute of Biology has conducted a genetic research of Mazaalai comparing existing species of bear in the world to Gobi bear.

A recent census determined there are only 22 Mazaalai remaining in Mongolia.
