Lenin Statue To Be Removed From Ulan Bator

A statue of Vladimir Lenin will reportedly soon be removed from the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator.

Media reports say authorities have ruled that the statue of the founder of Russia's Communist Party and the Soviet Union, placed in downtown Ulan Bator 58 years ago, should be removed and sold at an auction.

The ruling was initiated by Ulan Bator's mayor, Bat-Uul Erdene, who represents Mongolia's Democratic Party.

The party came to power in Mongolia after winning parliamentary elections in June.

Mongolia used to be a close ally of the Soviet Union.
