Australian Foreign Minister visits Mongolia

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, Senator Bob Carr is making an official visit to Mongolia upon the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Bold. Carr will be here from October 1st to the 4th.

The visit is distinct in the framework of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Commonwealth of Australia and Mongolia. This is the second visit by an Australian Minister.

During the official visit, Carr will be received by the President and Prime Minister of Mongolia respectively. Official negotiations will be conducted between the Foreign Ministers. In the scope of the Australian Development Program, Minister Carr will get acquainted with the implementation of the program and will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Australian Consulate-General in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Australia is an important partner of Mongolia in the Asia Pacific Region and a leading country with regard to direct foreign investments into Mongolia. Australia plays an important role particularly in the mining sector, supplying us with the latest equipment and introducing modern technology and management.

Foreign Minister Carr previously served as the Premier of New South Wales from April 04, 1995 to August 03, 2005. He holds the record for the longest continuous service as Premier of NSW. During Carr’s 10 years as Premier net debt was reduced from 7.4 percent of gross state product to zero. Carr’s Government was responsible for the building of facilities for the 2000 Olympic Games, described by the International Olympic Committee as “The best ever!” Carr was to later boast that the 2000 Olympics were paid in full without a cent in debt.
