Foreign Media and Election Observers in Place for Election
2012 Parliamentary Election and the City Council or the Capital City Representative Khural will be carried out at the same time in the every corner of Mongolia from 7am to 8 pm. Tomorrow, Mongolia will choose the candidates and the political party which we believe will change life for Mongolians and brighten the future of Mongolians.
The official registry of candidates for the 2012 Parliamentary Election for electoral districts and by party name was released by the General Election Commission (GEC). According to the GEC, 354 people are running for the electoral districts and 84 of which are female candidates. There are 26 independent candidates running for the election for electoral district and 5 of them are women. In total, 190 candidates are running in the election by party name and 90 of them are females. The youngest candidate is 26 years old while the eldest one is 71 years old, according to Speaker of Parliament, D.Demberel.
As of today, about 30 people from nine foreign organizations have been officially recorded by the GEC to observe the upcoming parliamentary election. Another 37 people have been registered to report on the election as well.
N.Luvsanjav, head of the GEC, said the election commission is granting permission certificates to foreign reporters and observers – underscoring that the GEC has taken all the necessary measures to organize this.
The head of the GEC passed on these figures to the media at a press conference held on Tuesday to the heads of diplomatic missions and permanent representatives of international organizations in Mongolia. This refers to participants and observers interested in matters on the election system in Mongolia, the process of running the parliamentary election with help of automatic devices and its importance, the system of solving problems in case of an argument related to the automatic devices, the date of announcing the parliamentary election results and tackling requests and complaints about the election.
According to N.Luvsanjav, a total of 1.8 million have been registered in the official list of voters, for 1,905 parliamentary election sub-committees nationwide. A total of 15,549 state servants are working in the sub-commissions, and 130 people are working within 26 IT teams and 2,625 are working as assistants to the sub-committees. A total of 2,446 machines to count voting ballots have been transferred to the sub-committees as well.
On the same day, the GEC retested the devices and introduced them it to representatives of the political parties and coalitions running in the election, as well as to observing NGOs.
