SPEAKER RECEIVES STEVEN BARNETT

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Parliament Speaker D.Demberel met Monday Steven Barnett, a deputy division chief in the Asia-Pacific department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Speaker has said Mongolia's own characteristic considerably influence its macro-level policy of the finance and economics, particularly, growth of fuel has the main role in the inflation rate. “We have experienced a fuel shortage due to a delay of fuel supply from Russia. However, the shortage is not expected to surge the inflation rate thanks to measures the cabinet has been taken,” he has stressed.

“Grain is also a big influence on the inflation. In recent years, our country has been receiving abundant harvest, and it is yielding a positive effect on a food supply. We are warned against the global food shortage and climate condition,” he went on. He has emphasized an importance of a measure to prevent a shortage of meat although the number of heads of livestock has reached 45 million.

In turn, Mr. Barnet has said a new difficulty, facing the Mongolian economics, might relate to a high load on the budget. “In my observation, the speed of inflation rate has dropped by last month. This is a result of the cabinet actions to stabilize meat prices,” Mr. Barnett has said.

He has said it is considered as necessary to toughen the monetary policy for the macro-economic policy and to keep the current budgetary policy approved this year.
