FOUR FULBRIGHT SEMIFINALISTS FROM TRANSYLVANIA UNIVERSITY

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Four Transylvania University seniors have been named semifinalists for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the 2016-2017 academic year.

According to Transylvania University, the program is highly competitive, and gives grants to fund English Teaching Assistantships abroad. Finalists are chosen for their academic and professional achievement, and leadership.

Fullbright’s website says these grants allow native English speakers to be placed in classrooms around the world, to supplement language education.

Samantha Easterling of Wilmore KY, McKenzie Gearheart of Pikeville KY, Erin Marek of Pataskala OH and Courtney Smith of Batavia OH have been selected as semifinalists.

Easterling is a semifinalist for Macedonia, and Gearheart is a semifinalist for India, Marek is a semifinalist for Mongolia, and Smith is a semifinalist for the Slovak republic.

In the past 10 years, 17 Transylvania students have received Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships – including four last year who are currently serving in Thailand, India, Malaysia, and South Korea.b
