Miss World PH Queneerich Rehman Off To Ordos, Gets Pointers On Q&A Portion

MANILA, Philippines — Miss World Philippines 2012 Queneerich Rehman has one big question to think about for a month leading to the Miss World Pageant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China: “Why do you deserve to be Miss World?”

According to Miss World Philippines franchise holder Cory Quirino, it is the standard question asked of the finalists during the question and answer pageant on finals night, and one that requires the most authentic answer in order to clinch the crown.

“A lot of candidates give canned messages and the judges don’t want that… speak from the heart,” Quirino told Rehman who was seated beside her during an interview.

Quirino recalled that the answer of last year’s candidate, Gwendoline Ruais, proved pivotal to her ascent from 3rd to 1st runner-up, zooming past other candidates including Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Vilanova, whom Quirino recalled was gunning for the win by being “so friendly, all over the place.”

“The behavior, the conduct of the contestants is strictly monitored even by their respective chaperones. The finalists have to be vigilant yet they always have to be themselves,” Quirino said.

Asked if they worry that the on-going issue between China and the Philippines could be disadvantageous to Rehman, Quirino gave a pragmatic answer.

“That is the apprehension of the majority of Filipinos… it is a valid fear.

“However, I have every faith in the Miss World organization that they will not allow politics [to figure in the contest]. I believe in the credibility of Miss World.”

Rehman will showcase her beatboxing skills in Ordos. While some may deem it a bit “street” for such a contest, Quirino believes otherwise.

“I think it’s a twist, a refreshing twist. It shows that the beauties of today are current, charming, entertaining. Hopefully, she will get top of mind recognition [for such a talent],” Quirino said.

Rehman and Quirino enjoin the public to “Like” the former’s Facebook page. According to a release, Miss World has launched a Miss World Multimedia Award in which contestants can update their supporters via their respective section on www.missworld.com. Contestants will be judged on how they present their web section. The best presentation will earn fast-track points on the Miss World scoreboard.

Days prior to her flight to Ordos, Rehman underwent rigorous training in anything and everything that would help in her bid; from applying makeup and walking the ramp, to Mandarin lessons and a course in social media management.

Rehman also visited the National Children’s Hospital and the Philippine General Hospital as part of her beauty with a purpose campaign, also integral to her final score in the pageant.

The Miss World pageant will be held on Aug. 18 and broadcast live from Ordos on TV5.
