Miss Fiji settles well in Ordos

Miss World Fiji (MWF) Koini Vakaloloma has settled well in the 62nd Miss World finals which is currently underway in the city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia, China. She has managed to promote Fiji as a tourist destination to the delegates from South America, namely Guatemala and Paraguay including Denmark and Seychelles.

“I have met all contestants and they all know ‘bula’ and my name, I have also learnt a bit of Italian from Miss Italy, Japanese from Miss Japan, Spanish from Miss Spain and Chinese from Miss China who has said my Chinese is very good,” said Vakaloloma in a statement.

Auditions for the ‘dances of the World’ segment finished yesterday where Miss Fiji was asked to perform her presentation twice after the judges were thrilled by her unique performance.

Her national costume depicting the ‘owl’ and special choreographed meke if selected will be displayed during the live telecast of Miss World on the 18th of August, in a stadium that will seat 40,000 spectators and to a television audience of over 1 billion making it the second most televised event next to the summer Olympic Games.

The contestants have finished rehearsals for the main show including video taping of their introductions and will now head to the city of Shanghai for a tour through China before competing for other fast track events – Beach Beauty, Top Model and Best Designer Dress award.

This year, a record number of 120 countries are competing for the title of Miss World making it the biggest beauty contest to date over any other contests staged throughout the world.

Meanwhile, a prominent television station in Fiji is currently in discussions with the Miss World Organization to air the finals live for the first time for the Fijian audience.
