Sumo: Harumafuji gearing up for yokozuna bid+

TOKYO, Aug. 2 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Harumafuji, who won his second career title at the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament in July, is hoping he has learned from the mistakes of his past.

The ozeki will get his chance to prove it when he makes his bid for promotion to sumo's ultimate rank of yokozuna at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament in September.

"I'm feeling good. I've been given a chance, so I want to make the best of it," Harumafuji said after resuming training at the Isegahama stable in Tokyo's Koto Ward on Tuesday.

Harumafuji returned on Monday from his native Mongolia, where he underwent spa treating on his left knee and right thigh.

On Tuesday, he loosened up in a light workout of stretches but did not take part in any sparring. "I think the treatment worked," he said, adding he plans to begin in earnest from Wednesday.

It will be Harumafuji's second time aiming for yokozuna promotion. The last time he tried was at the 2009 Nagoya meet, where his bid was over by the fifth day after suffering two defeats.

This time, the 27-year-old is taking extra precautions to ensure his body is in top form for the Sept. 11 to 25 meet at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.

"The efforts I make every day are important. I'm making sure to eat and sleep and maintain a healthy lifestyle," he said.
