Easier travel for Mongolians to South Korea

South Korean president Lee Myung-bak will pay an official visit to Mongolia from 21st to 23rd of this moth, by the invitation of our president, Ts.Elbegdorj. During this visit, the two presidents will come to an agreement on the mid and long term cooperation of the two countries. "Mongolia- South Korea mid-term cooperation programme" will be established, cooperation will be taken to new levels on all partnerships. As the South Korean president is a supporter of the green development, partnership on green technology, renewable energy, conserving water and preserving green habitat are also possible topics of discussion. Lately the economical partnership and citizen exchange programmes of the countries have been developing vigorously. Therefore, the question of easier travel for citizens between the two countries is very important and the visit is expected to come up with a resolution for this matter.

As for Lee Myung-bak; he was born in 1941 Osaka, Japan as the fifth of seven children. Lee attended night school at Dongji Commercial High School with a scholarship. After graduation he was able to gain admission to Korea University majoring in economics. In 1964, during his third year in college, Lee was elected president of the student council. However, that same year, for participating in demonstrations against President Park Chunghee's Seoul-Tokyo Talks on the issue with Japanese restitution for the colonisation of the Korean peninsula, he was charged with plotting insurrection and was sentenced to five years probation and three years of imprisonment by the Supreme Court of Korea. He worked for Hyundai Motors for 27 years before stepping into the big world of politics in 1992. Since then, he was constantly re elected as a member of the Korean parliament. He gave up his position as the MP back in 1998, when a question of where his election campaign money came, arose. In 2002, he was made Mayor of Soul; the capital of South Korea. This is where his journey to become the president began. Kim Sung-Hwan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Republic of Korea paid a visit to Mongolia and met with our president, about the up coming South Korean President visit.
