Celebrations to mark 60th anniversary of establishing Polish-Mongolian diplomatic ties

Celebrations commemorating the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Mongolia will be held on June 28th 2010 in Warsaw. The celebrations will be hosted by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and Ambassador of Mongolia to Poland Otgon Dambiinyam.

Poland was one of the first countries to recognize the independent state of Mongolia, with diplomatic ties being established on April 14th 1950 and the first exchange of diplomats taking place in 1953.

1989 was a turning point for both Poland and Mongolia, with both countries witnessing the collapse of communism and a new democratic beginning. Ever since that time Mongolia has been gradually introducing democratic norms and processes typified by the European Union, which is best demonstrated by Mongolia’s pro reform stance in the negotiations on the partnership and cooperation agreement with the EU, likely to be signed before the end of 2010.
