MMC looks to top group as it takes Erchim today

KATHMANDU, May 4 : National champion Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and home team Erchim FC of Mongolia that have already qualified for the final rounds will lock horns on Monday in the ongoing AFC President´s Cup group C qualifiers.

MMC had defeated Svarieng FC of Cambodia 6-3 and Erchim had also overcome the same team 3-1 to make it to the final round after playing their very first match in the three-team group. The top two teams will qualify for the final rounds.

MMC, which had crashed out from the first round, in its first participation in 2006 has aimed to make it into the next round as the group winner. Erchim is also in the mood to finish on top of the table at home turf.

MMC coach Nabin Neupane held the view that his side would play to secure top spot as both teams have already made it to the next round. He is also planning to amend poor show of defense seen in the first match against Svarieng. Despite taking 3-0 lead as early as in the 24th minute; Svarieng had narrowed down the score 2-3 in the 56th minute taking advantage of defensive lapses.

"We will give continuity to our offensive style of play and also try to amend defensive weaknesses," Neupane said. He was also cautious of the strong defense and swift counter attack of Erchim.

"The opponents have stubborn defense and are swift in counter attack. We will make sure thing go better in defense line up this time," Neupane said adding they were ready to go.
Neupane´s counterpart D Batnasan of Erchim hinted that his side will resort to counter attack strategy. "We have good defense and will try to score in counter attack. And this is our style of play. We will steak to our plan and try to achieve our goals."

The tournament features the league champions from third-tier member countries of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The final rounds will feature six teams including winner and runner up from three groups. Group A and B consist of four teams each unlike C with only three teams.
