Mongolians sell used cars in Kazakhstan

Used cars imported into Mongolia from Japan and Korea can reportedly be sold in Kazakhstan for as much as triple the price they sell for in Mongolia, so entrepreneurial Mongolian car salespersons have begun selling used cars in Kazakhstan.

Traders of Da Khuree Auto Market in Mongolia are reportedly travelling to Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, via the Ulaanbaishint border of Mongolia, located in Tsagaannuur soum of Bayan-Ulgii Province, and are selling cars there.

According to the Kolesa.kz website, a Toyota Carina manufactured in 1997 can sell for 9,500 USD (13.4 million MNT) in Astana. The same car will sell for only 5 million MNT at Da Khuree market in Mongolia, however. And while a Toyota Corolla manufactured in 2008 can sell for approximately 30 million MNT in Astana, the same car sells for around 20 million MNT in Mongolia.

  1. In the recent years used car market has seen a steep high. As the global economy is seeing a low in the past few years people have more inclined over buying used cars for their transportation purposes rather than investing a hefty amount on new cars. I have seen this trend growing in used cars in Toronto market also.
