T. Munkhtuya takes bronze from World Wrestling Championship

Mongolian freestyle wrestler and International Sports Master, T. Munkhtuya, took the bronze medal in the 59 kg category at the Senior Women’s World Wrestling Championships, held in Strathcona County in Canada, which concluded on Saturday. She competed on the first day of competition on 27 September. In the first round Munkhtuya was matched against Michelle Fazzari of Canada and won with scores of 1:0, 0:1, 3:1. She also beat Leigh Evelyn Jaynes of the USA, with scores of 3:0, 0:1, 3:1, but lost to Zalina Sidakova of Belarus by 0:2, 0:1. She then competed against Sheoran Shilpi of India in the bronze medal bout and defeated her with a full score. Munkhtuya won the tenth World Championship medal for the Mongolian women’s team.

T. Munkhtuya was born in 1988 in Teshig soum of Bulgan Province and began training in freestyle wrestling in 2008 at the Khangarid Sports Club in Orkhon Province. She graduated from the Avarga Physical Education Institute in 2011. Munkhtuya became a member of the Mongolian national team in 2012 and was granted the Sports Master and International Sports Master titles this year. She won another bronze medal at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix Tournament in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and a silver medal at the “Mongolia Open 2012” international wrestling competition this year.
